This policy covers the HearLift app and the hearlift.app website. HearLift is independently developed. For privacy questions or requests, use the support form linked below.
What stays on your device
Your library, listening position, calibration, listening settings, and activity are stored locally. The app does not send calibration or listening-activity history to the developer and needs no HearLift account. Importing a file does not itself upload it to the developer. Downloads store managed audio on your device; browsing can cache covers, and streaming buffers audio temporarily. Server sign-in details on iPhone and iPad use the system Keychain. LibriVox needs no account. Your listening position stays local and does not update server progress.
Included HearLift voices run on your device when it passes the compatibility check. Apple narration uses voices installed on your iPhone or iPad. Android narration passes text to your installed text-to-speech engine; HearLift lists voices that the engine reports can work offline. That engine operates under its provider’s privacy policy. Playing an already-downloaded pre-recorded book does not send its passages to a speech-generation service.
Music library access
When you choose Music on this device, HearLift asks for permission to access Music on iPhone or readable audio in Android’s media library. It stores information about the albums and tracks you select, their Music identifiers, and your track and listening position locally. Playback looks up the original downloaded tracks; HearLift does not copy them into its managed library, change them, or upload their audio or metadata to the developer or a speech service.
You can revoke Music access in your iPhone’s privacy settings or audio-media access in Android’s app permissions. HearLift then cannot play those tracks until access is restored. Removing an album from My library deletes HearLift’s saved entry and listening position, not the original tracks in Music or Android’s media library.
Browsing, streaming and downloads
Searches, covers, streams, and downloads contact the selected provider or hosting service. It receives the requested terms or resources and normal connection information, such as your IP address. Pre-recorded books with text are hosted through Cloudflare; Project Gutenberg and Wikisource provide their own book services. On iPhone and iPad, LibriVox supplies public recording metadata and Internet Archive hosts its audio and artwork. Plex sign-in contacts Plex; media-server browsing and audio requests contact the selected service or your configured server. Those optional connections use that service’s account, not a HearLift account. External book links open those sites under their own policies. The web app may route its supported book requests through its server.
Optional Microsoft voices
When you enable Azure voices, text needed for narration is sent to Microsoft Azure Speech, along with voice and language settings, so it can return audio. This can include imported text and a passage prepared ahead of playback. On native iOS and Android, requests go directly to Microsoft over HTTPS; the web app uses its configured server as an intermediary. Do not use online narration for text you do not want processed by that service.
Saved Azure credentials on iPhone and iPad use the system Keychain. Android encrypts saved credentials with an Android Keystore key; they are excluded from the app’s operating-system backup and device-transfer rules. Web service credentials are managed by the configured server, not exposed in the page. Turning Azure voices off stops their use but does not automatically remove saved credentials. You can remove a saved connection in the app; server credentials must be removed by the server’s operator.
This website
Cloudflare hosts this website and processes connection information to deliver and protect it, including IP addresses and requested URLs. The support form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check for automated submissions and short-lived request limits to reduce spam. Turnstile processes browser and connection information for this security check. We do not add advertising trackers, analytics scripts, or account logins. Hosting providers may process security and operational logs under their own policies.
If you contact support
The support form sends your email address, optional name, and message through Cloudflare to the developer’s Gmail inbox. Direct email and replies are also handled by the email service. We use this information to answer you and investigate the issue, not for marketing. The website does not keep a separate message database or deliberately log message contents. Correspondence is retained as needed for your request and follow-up. Use the form or reply to a support email to request deletion, subject to any necessary legal retention.
Your choices and data removal
Remove titles from My library, disconnect media servers, or remove saved speech-service connections in the app. Disconnecting a media server removes its saved sign-in; completed downloads remain, while streams need a connection. Removing a title does not delete your original imported file, device Music tracks, or the provider’s copy. Verified download parts may remain for a later retry. Device or browser controls manage local app data and backups; operating-system backups may contain app data depending on your settings. On Android, backup and device-transfer rules include only a marker used to recognize a device change; the library, recordings, calibration, activity, and credentials are excluded. The developer cannot retrieve or delete your local listening records.
Platform services and diagnostics
Apple manages App Store and TestFlight distribution; Google manages Google Play distribution. Device diagnostics and store feedback are handled according to your platform settings and those providers’ policies, separately from the app’s local listening history. HearLift does not include an advertising or analytics SDK. Your device, installed text-to-speech engine, browser, email service, and external book or speech providers operate under their own privacy policies. We do not sell personal information or use your listening records for advertising.
Children and privacy
HearLift is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent personal information to support, contact us so we can address it.
Policy updates
We will update this page and its effective date if the app’s data handling changes. Please review it when deciding whether to use a new online feature.
