Listening practice, made personal

Help your brain combine implant sound with natural hearing.

Two different ways of hearing. One goal: helping them work better together. HearLift is listening practice for people with single-sided deafness who have a cochlear implant in one ear and natural hearing in the other.

The idea behind the practice

A familiar voice. A different way to listen.

Your good ear can make speech easier to follow, but it can also do most of the listening. HearLift lets you adjust that support, giving you room to practice making more use of implant sound alongside your natural hearing.

  1. Hear the same words

Over-ear headphones send the same speech to your natural ear and your implant’s external microphone, with separate control of the sound level on each side.

  2. Find your starting point

Guided calibration helps you set a comfortable app listening level and a starting level of good-ear support for your own setup.

  3. Make the practice yours

Keep support steady or let it vary as you listen. Adjust the level and timing live, without starting calibration again.

Something worth listening to

Make a good book part of your routine.

Choose a pre-recorded book, find a free book through Project Gutenberg or Wikisource, or bring an EPUB or text file you have permission to use. On iPhone and iPad, built-in Apple voices can read text books aloud. Downloaded pre-recorded books play offline.
